About me
Okay, things about me...
I'm a fourth year graduate student working on my PhD in Genetics, after which I'm hoping to get my Masters in Genetic
Counseling. Yes, I know its backwards - its just how I do things. :-) If you anything about graduate work, then you know that I spend most of my days in the
lab. My work currently involves understanding the link between genetics and behavior using the nematode worm Caenorhabditis elegans. In layman's terms -
I figure out how male worms mate. Yeah, I'm serious.
In my free time, I'm usually volunteering or otherwise active at my church. My choir singing is on hold for the semester due to time constraints, but I am also sponsoring someone's entrance into the Church, teaching apologetics, and a class on the side.
When I'm not at the lab or church, I love to read fantasy books (duh) and play video games - mostly the RPG variety, though I've been known to kick boys' butts in fighting games. I've been doing both since I was about 6, and plan to continue to do so until I can't read anymore!
I share my home with two spoiled cats who run my life. My friends have labeled me "the crazy Asian cat lady", sadly enough. This synopsis was spent yelling "No, we do not chew on power cords!!" and trying to distract kitty no. 1 from electrocuting himself. Love him anyways. I love animals of just about every shape and size (I was pre-vet for 3 years before settling on genetics). Hopefully I'll get a dog when grad school doesn't run my life. And if I can keep kitty no. 2 from hating it.
Music has always been a big part of my life - I've played the piano since first grade and will eventually learn at least the guitar. I listen to practically anything except rap, including music in other languages that I don't speak. If I can sing to it, I'll probably like it. In fact, I think I don't like rap precisely because I can't sing to it.
My other hobby is computers and technology - my desktop computer is handbuilt and has been since sophomore year in college where I caught 5 computer viruses at once which effectively trashed my computer. What can I say - whatever I do, I do it to a geeky extent.
I like to cook, and I'm usually pretty good at picking out recipes that taste good. My experiments at making my own recipes are sometimes successful, other times not so much, but usually still edible. My specialty is desserts (cookies and cheesecake!) so if you're nice...maybe I'll make something for you.
I have a creative streak a mile wide, but rarely have the means, talents, or sometimes time and determination to see it all the way through. Doesn't stop me from trying though!
Despite the fact that I am essentially a tomboy, I do have my girly side, and I'll just has happily go shopping for clothes with my mom (especially if she's paying!) as play video games with my cousins. Hair and makeup I'll do to an extent.
All in all, I'm pretty laid back, and I like making friends! That's me in a nutshell, ask if you want to know anything else!

.... I do miss chat sometimes, but I am sure you must be the only one from chat that misses me at all.
Who knows, unless I am too busy to go online, I will probably be back in chat sooner than you think. Decided to have the laptop fixed, but no idea of when I will be getting it back ... Hasta pronto then, I hope.
